Indiana Ice

Over the past few weeks, we have been lucky to have players from the Indiana Ice hockey team visit us. The players came as part of their Reading Caravan program.  During each visit, the players read a few books to us and then talked about what it is like to play hockey for the Ice.  They also brought in pieces of the equipment to share.  Our students always had great questions for the players.  We all enjoyed the visits very much.  We look forward to following our new friends throughout their hockey season.  To find out more about the Indiana Ice, check out their website at http://www.indianaice.com/

Veterans Day

Today we honored our Veterans with a school wide program.  It was filled with songs, a skit, a wonderful speaker and many acknowledgements.  There was so much pride in our school today.  Thank you to all veterans for the sacrifices you have made for us to be free!

Fountains, Riley, Badges and Sweet Potatoes

Let's see... what has been going on in Room 205?  A LOT!!  Last week we had our third grade music program, "Fall Harvest."  All the third graders did a fabulous job singing, dancing and playing instruments.  We couldn't get the songs about sweet potatoes and pumpkins out of our head.  What a great show!  Also, our class has been studying about James Whitcomb Riley and his writing.  Some of our favorite poems were The Raggedy Man and Little Orphant Annie.  We love how Mr. Riley wrote how the people talked.

This past week we had a visit by one of the local police officers.  He read a great book to us called, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.  The book was interesting and the officer was really funny.  He talked to us about his job, too.  Finally, we had our first Scientist of the Week experiment.  V.  decided to show us what happens when you combine Diet Coke and Mentos.  The picture says it all!  Good thing we did this experiment outside!

Fall Break is coming up soon and we are all looking forward to some much needed rest.  Keep visiting our blog as we share more happenings from our classroom!

Globetrotter Visit

Wow! Yesterday, Dizzy Grant from the world famous Harlem Globetrotters visited our school.  He said that the Globetrotters have not lost a game since 1971.  That is 40 years!  Dizzy came to visit to talk to us about being good kids.  He taught us the word "acronym."  The acronym he taught us was C.H.E.E.R.  This stands for Cooperation, Health, Effort, Enthusiasm and Responsibility.  Dizzy also showed us some of his cool tricks.  He spun the basketball on his head and his finger.  He did it so fast, we couldn't get a picture!  Dizzy also bounced the ball on the floor and then caught it on his back.  We had a great time learning with Dizzy.  If you want to learn more about Dizzy and the Harlem Globetrotters, check out their website at http://www.harlemglobetrotters.com/

Have P.R.I.D.E. in Yourself

Today, the Indianapolis Colts mascot, Blue, came to visit our school.   Blue talked to us about taking P.R.I.D.E. in ourselves.  "P" was for "Play 60."  Blue says we should get 60 minutes of exercise every day.  The "R" was for respect. Blue said we should show respect to our friends. The "I" was for "intelligent decisions."  Blue said we should make three intelligent decisions every day.  The "D" was for diet because we need to eat a balanced diet.  The "E" was for education and he told us to think about our future.  He also told us to thank our teachers.

Blue was a crazy guy.  He shot confetti out his nose, he danced with the teachers and he sat on a teacher's lap.  We learned that Blue loves carrots, he knows magic and he LOVES football.  We are so lucky and happy Blue came to visit our school.

Colts Fun Day

Today was our Colts Fun Day.  We started out in the gym cheering on our favorite team.  Mrs. S. and Mrs. M. showed us their baton tricks.  Next, we moved outside to participate in different games.  They were "super fun" and made us exercise.  Even Mrs. Trees participated.  Unfortunately, it began to rain and we had to move inside.  In the gym we danced and sang about our Colts.  Our Colts Fun Day was fantastic and awesome.  GO COLTS!

Here We Go!

Welcome to our class blog!  I am so excited to be a part of this project for the school year.  This will be a fantastic way to share what we have learned in Room 205.  Thank you to the donors from Donor's Choose for making this possible.  Check out their site at http://www.donorschoose.org/  The donors helped us purchase a digital camera, memory stick and video camera for our class.  Now we can record and document the many things we have learned.  It is so exciting!  We will write more about our class soon.  Keep checking out our blog!
